Captain

Give the trip a Captain, then watch the role move through the group.

Captain adds a shared game to a gathering that already has its own plans. One player holds the role, makes choices from a set of powers, and eventually passes it on.

What it is

A game that travels with the group.

Captain is meant to sit on top of a weekend away, a reunion, or another multi-day gathering. It gives the group something playful to follow without replacing the reason everyone came together.

The current Captain chooses between powers and decisions that affect the group. Points and the Captain role move as the game unfolds, creating small alliances, rivalries, and stories between the larger plans.

The original version was played in 2019. Its structure and interface are being reconsidered before it becomes something another host can run.

The shape of it

A role with consequences.

  1. 01

    Set the gathering

The host creates the game around a known group and the time they will spend together.

  2. 02

    Take the role

One player becomes Captain and receives choices, powers, and responsibilities.

  3. 03

    Pass it on

Play changes the score and moves the Captain role through the group over several days.

For the host

Start the game, keep its pace appropriate for the gathering, and resolve the moments that need a human call.

For the player

Follow the changing role, act when Captain decisions reach you, and influence who takes command next.

Before you play

The public rules, final powers, group size, and digital tools are still being designed.

Where it stands

The 2019 game is being rebuilt from its strongest idea.

Captain will follow the Gauntlet portal work. This page will grow as the rules and host experience become ready to test.
